By Lee Jon Young

President Yoon Suk-yeol, who is in New York for the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, held his first summit with Prime Minister Terrance Drew of Saint Kitts and Nevis on the morning of September 21.

During the meeting, President Yoon requested St. Kitts and Nevis' support for the 2030 Busan World Expo and exchanged views on the development of bilateral relations.

President Yoon said he was especially pleased to meet with Prime Minister Drew during this special year, which marks the 40th anniversary of St. Kitts and Nevis' independence and the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and encouraged him to build on recent high-level exchanges to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas such as healthcare and climate change response.

President Yoon also called on St. Kitts and Nevis, which is holding the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) chairmanship this year, to contribute to expanding cooperation between South Korea and the Eastern Caribbean region.

Prime Minister Drew said he was pleased that the two countries have recently strengthened their cooperation in the energy sector, and as they continue to expand this cooperation, he looks forward to deepening bilateral cooperation in the areas of strengthening St. Kitts and Nevis' health care capacity and building an advanced health care system.

On the occasion of the meeting, the two leaders agreed to further enhance bilateral exchanges and continue to identify cooperative projects that will benefit both economies.
