South Korea's top salesman No. 1, South Korea President Yoon, attracts 3.3 trillion won investment from Netflix

Upon arriving in the United States, President Yoon Seok-yeol, who has proclaimed himself as South Korea's top salesman, succeeded in attracting investment at his first official event. President Yoon achieved this feat during a global corporate CEO meeting held in the Blair House Reception Room in Washington, D.C on the afternoon of the 24th (local time).

 

 

According to the presidential office, President Yoon met with Ted Sarandos, CEO of Netflix, at the event and said, "It was a very meaningful time. At this meeting, CEO Sarandos expressed his position that Netflix will invest 25 billion dollars, approximately 3.3 trillion won, in K-content for the next four years." 

 

President Yoon also stated that this investment would be "a great opportunity for South Korea's content industry and creators, as well as Netflix," and that he "sincerely welcomes Netflix's bold investment decision." He added, "I asked CEO Sarandos to explain the investment in detail."

 

Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, responded, "It is an honor to meet President Yoon today. I told the President that Netflix has decided to invest 25 billion dollars in Korea. Through this investment, we will support the creation of Korean dramas, movies, and reality shows for the next four years. This amount is twice the total amount we have invested in Korea since our entry in 2016 until last year."

 

He went on to explain, "We were able to make this decision because we had faith in Korea's creative industry and believed that Korea will continue to tell great stories. President Yoon's affection and strong support for Korea's entertainment industry and Hallyu also contributed greatly to our decision."

 

Sarandos also emphasized, "It is truly fantastic to see Korea's culture and creative works spreading around the world. The stories that come from Korea now represent the cultural zeitgeist globally."

 

He added, "Our investment will not only contribute to a long-term partnership with Korea, but also invigorate the ecosystem of Korea's creative industry. Through our partnership with Korea, we will continue to tell great stories to the world."
